Finding your own Rhythm: Drumming circles with the Ombazu Music Centre
"Music is medicine for the heart, and rhythm is the heartbeat of Africa," says Ferdinand Hengombe, musician, composer, and since 2013 leader of the Ombazu Music Centre in Swakopmund. His studio not only produces songs, they sell percussion instruments such as Marimbas, drums bongos and rainmakers. The centers musicians also performs live concerts all over Namibia.
Hengombe gives percussion classes in schools, church communities and to tourists too, in special drumming circles. The repertoire of the musicians include, among others, the traditional melodies and rhythms of the Herero.
