Etosha Nationalpark

The so-called "Etosha Pan" in Namibia can be seen sparkling from afar as the ground is covered with white, Sun brightened, layers of lime salt. For a trip in Namibia, Etosha is an absolute "must see", as there are over a 100 species of mammals here, including the Elephant, Cheetah, Leopard, White Rhino, Giraffe and a variety of antelopes. The best time to see the animals close-up is near the waterholes, at night, behind a safe wall. The animals don't seem to mind the soft clicking of cameras and the human scent, but would rather quench their thirst and watch out for lions lurking in the background.

Overnight in three restcamps and watch the Big Five on illuminated waterholes

In earlier times, there was a 6000 square km lake here. In the Oshivambo language, "Etosha" means "place of dry waters". Seldomly does the Pan fill up with good rains, instead the porous limestone veld gets soaked and the surrounding waterholes are filled with water for a surprizingly long amount of time.

The Etosha National Park, the biggest in Namibia, has three Restcamps:
- Okaukeujo - main entrance
- Namutoni - used to be the Fort for the German colonial "Schutztruppe"
- Halali - situated in the middle of Etosha

Each of them are approximately 70 km apart from each other. For each camp you should spend about 2 days, to enjoy the scenery to the full extent
